The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has said that this decision is a "further proof" of the strength of this capital as a technological center
The US social network Facebook has reported that it will create 500 additional jobs in the United Kingdom when it opens a new headquarters next year, bringing the total number of employees in the country to 1,500.
The head of Facebook in Europe, Nicola Mendelsohn, said that most of these jobs will correspond to highly qualified engineering positions and hopes to give details of these plans during the annual conference of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI, for its acronym in English ) that is celebrated today in London.
"The United Kingdom is still one of the best places for a technology company and is an important part of the history of Facebook," Mendelsohn told British media.
"We came to London in 2007 with few people, by the end of next year we will have opened a new headquarters and we plan to employ 1,500 people," the board said. The new Facebook office is being built in the center of the British capital, according to a spokeswoman for this social network.
After knowing the plans, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said that the decision is a "further proof" of the strength of this capital as a technological center.
"The vibrant technology of the capital is the envy of Europe and the continued commitment of Facebook is another sign that London is open to talent, innovation and entrepreneurship from all corners of the world," added the mayor.
